The Ministry of Health has entered into a contract with consultants John Black and Associates to further embed Lean practices province-wide. Close to 300 Lean projects are already underway in Saskatchewan’s health system. Early results are promising and show these efforts to be improving patient experience and outcomes, enhancing staff morale and engagement, increasing system productivity, and freeing-up provider time for patient care and improved service delivery.
Saskatchewan is the first province in Canada to apply Lean across the entire healthcare system, putting patients and families first by focusing on better health, better care, better value, and better teams.
All of the organizations involved in managing and delivering healthcare in Saskatchewan have agreed to use Lean as our common approach to providing the best possible care, most efficiently. Over the next four years, nearly 900 people working in the Saskatchewan healthcare system will be trained in Lean. Health regions and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency will run more than 1,000 Lean projects.
