Things to Do in Southwest Saskatchewan

Discover the Great Southwest! The Cypress Health Region encompasses over 60,000 square kilometres of adventure and entertainment including Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park , the Great Sandhills, Eastend’s T-Rex Paleontology Dig, Grasslands National Park , and the picturesque prairie grain belt. This diverse landscape provides many opportunities for outdoor adventure such as skiing, biking, golfing, fishing, boating, camping, and/or hunting.

Our service clubs and community organizations provide many opportunities for residents to become and remain active in their communities. Join a recreational sporting team, or cheer on our local sports heroes, including the Swift Current Broncos Hockey Club, or the Swift Current 57’s baseball team. Sporting activities in the southwest include hockey, ringette, baseball, fastball, slow pitch, curling, horseshoes, basketball, volleyball, swim club, archery, bowling, squash, racquetball, tennis, golf and football.

Southwest Saskatchewan is also home to many arts and cultural activities, festivals and trade shows. Visit Swift Current’s Fringe Festival, the Long Days Night Music Festival, or take in a unique artistic performance at the Lyric Theatre. Residents and visitors enjoy attending community fairs, rodeos and festivals, visiting community museums, watching friends and neighbours in local drama productions, taking an art class, or attending concerts by diverse artists from across Canada .

Educational Opportunities

The Cypress Health Region is home to the Chinook School Division, the Great PlainsCollege and the Academy of Learning – Swift Current. These organizations allow local residents to gain a college/university education in their home communities. Living in Southwest Saskatchewan also provides access to a number of well-respected post secondary institutions such as the University of Saskatchewan , the University of Regina , SIAST Campuses, and the Medicine Hat College .
