The role of acute care in the Cypress Health Region is to provide access to acute services such as emergency, ambulatory care, diagnostic services, and appropriate inpatient hospital stays. These services are be provided based on best practices within allocated resources. Patient safety is the top priority.
The Cypress Health Region offers acute care services in Swift Current at the Cypress Regional Hospital and in Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Leader, and Herbert at their respective Community Hospitals.
Cypress Regional Hospital – Swift Current
The services provided at the Cypress Regional Hospital (CRH) are:
- Emergency
- General surgery
- Obstetrics and gynaecology
- Pediatrics
- Internal medicine
- Psychiatry
- On-site radiology and
- An intensive care unit.
The CRH also provides satellite Renal Dialysis and a Community Oncology Outreach Program.
Secondary services, such as Ophthalmology, Urology, and visiting specialists such as Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Orthopaedics are also offered in Swift Current.
The Cypress Regional Hospital is the flagship for acute care in the Cypress Health Region and supports the community hospitals and their communities to deliver services together.
Community Hospitals – Herbert, Leader, Maple Creek, Shaunavon
The role of the Community Hospitals is to provide emergency services, general medicine, in the form of acute care, palliative care, convalescence as well as basic laboratory and diagnostic imaging.
Professional and support staff works together to provide these services as close to their home community as possible. The Community Hospitals in turn support the CRH when there is over capacity situations.
