Cypress Health Region laboratories provide a wide range of tests to assist the physicians and other healthcare providers in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease, illness, and wellness in patients.
Although the extent of testing varies at the different laboratories throughout the region, there are some requirements which are standard to all laboratories:
- Laboratory tests are performed only with a physician or nurse practitioner’s order
- Some tests require the patient to fast. This means nothing to eat (no gum or candy either) or drink (except water) for 10 hours before the specimen is collected. When in doubt, ask your physician or the laboratory whether fasting is required
- To determine the correct dosage of medication you are taking, it generally is necessary to collect the specimen at a certain time before or after the drug has been taken. Once again, check with the laboratory if you are not sure of when to come
- Some tests require specific patient preparation, and therefore the laboratory will give instructions and may need to arrange an appointment date and time
*Please note Cypress Health Region is a scent-free workplace, so please refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes or scent products when you come for your tests.
The laboratory at the Cypress Regional Hospital has the highest volume of patients in the Region. It is important to note the following when determining the best time to visit the Cypress Regional Hopsital’s lab.
- If you are fasting, most people find it convenient to stop eating and drinking after 8 p.m. and to arrive at the laboratory early the next morning.
- If you are not fasting, your wait time may be lessened if you arrive after 10 a.m., due to the number of fasting patients arriving first thing in the morning.
- In general, patients are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, children, patients with appointments in other hospital departments and those with tests that must be collected at specific times may be taken out of turn. We will attempt to get to you as quickly as possible.
- Please remove your outdoor clothing before your name is called for your blood test, as this will help us to process you more quickly.
