Medical/Surgical

Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg) inpatient services are delivered at each of the Cypress Health Region’s five hospitals: Cypress Regional Hospital (Swift Current), Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre, Maple Creek Hospital, Leader Hospital, and Herbert and District Integrated Health Facility.

Med/Surg is a nursing specialty area that monitor and care for adult patients with a broad range of care needs. This range of care needs can include pre and post operative surgical patients and monitoring patients being treated with medications to manage illness.

Med/Surg nurses are involved in the planning of care with patients and their families and are available to answer your questions.

The environment on Med/Surg offers a multidisciplinary team approach to care. Team members may include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, as well as other support staff. Family participation in planning for the care of patients is encouraged.

Team members work together to monitor the severity of illness and the intensity of services required during a hospital stay. A strong emphasis is directed towards facilitating safe discharges to ensure appropriate use of acute care and community resources. The multidisciplinary team, along with the physician, work together to plan for and offer assistance for post-hospital care. This may include arrangements for transfers to rehabilitation, long-term care, convalescent care, or facilitating arrangements for services at home.
