Women’s and Children’s

The Cypress Health Region offers a Women’s and Children’s Health Services unit at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The 15 bed unit is apprised of three labour and delivery suites, five pediatric rooms, seven multipurpose rooms, and a nursery.

The Women and Children’s Health Services Unit (W/C) provides a wide range of patient services including:

  • Labour and Delivery
  • Midwifery
  • Newborn care
  • Lactation Consultant for mothers seeking assistance with breastfeeding
  • Pediatrics care of children from infancy to 16 years of age
  • Gynecological surgery
  • Medical overflow

Specific to the Women’s and Children’s unit is open visiting hours for immediate family, as well as bedside reporting at shift change. Bedside reporting ensures that the patient is at the center of all information and care provided.

Staff in this unit have specialized training in both labour and delivery and pediatrics. Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses are part of the multidisciplinary team for this unit.

The Cypress Health Region also houses a midwifery program. Midwives are healthcare professionals who have specialized education in midwifery. Midwifery care includes quality health care, education, counseling, and support for childbearing women. The midwife works with each woman and her family to identify their unique physical, social, and emotional needs. Midwifery services in the Cypress Health Region are free through Saskatchewan Health medical coverage. For complete details on midwifery services please visit the midwifery page.

For information on prenatal and postnatal care please visit the Public Health Nursing page.
