Wildfire Smoke Present Throughout Saskatchewan, Take Precautions

The Swift Current area is at a ‘High Risk’ Air Quality Index (as of 2:00pm CST, June 29). Northern Saskatchewan communities are presently experiencing the maximum ‘Very High Risk’ rating.

High levels of air pollution can trigger or worsen asthma attacks. Those with heart and lung conditions are most affected by air pollution. Those with pre existing respiratory conditions, such as asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may experience the inability to breathe normally, worsening cough, chest discomfort, wheezing and shortness of breath. Seek medical care if symptoms become worse.

Wildfire smoke can affect your health. This type of smoke contains a mixture of gases and fine particles from burning trees and other plant materials. These particles can get deep into your lungs and may be absorbed into the bloodstream.
